My story “Thoughts and Prayers” will soon be published in Humans in the Wild: Reactions to a Gun Loving Country, an anthology of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry on the topic of gun violence.
This is a bittersweet announcement to make. I’m very happy to be included in this collection, but at the same time, I wish I’d never had a reason to write this story to begin with.
Last year, a friend of mine was murdered. Writing “Thoughts and Prayers” was my small way of honoring her memory. I also used the story to explore grief, faith, and our country’s almost-religious fascination with guns.
I’m so grateful to be part of Humans in the Wild. You can read the announcement from Swallow Publishing here.
I’ll let you know once I have more news about a publication date.
Take care,
Justin
Hi everyone!
World Weaver Press just revealed the cover and table of contents for Recognize Fascism, a sci-fi/fantasy anthology that will be released later this year. I’m thrilled that my story “May Your Government Be the Center of a Smelly Dung Sandwich” will be part of this collection!
In their announcement, the publisher describes the book this way: “…these stories depict the moments when people see fascism in front of them for what it is, accept it as real, and make the choice to fight it.”
My story is a lighthearted sci-fi tale about music and rebellion and stickin’ it to the man (I know what you’re thinking, but the answer is no. It’s not School of Rock in outer space).
I’ll be sharing more exciting updates (and a sneak preview) in the near future. In the meantime, head over to the publisher’s website and check out their announcement. Exciting stuff! I love the cover!

Hi everyone,
Dear Abby published another one of my prank letters today! You can read it online here.
That’s all I have for today! I’ll be back soon with more updates. 🙂

Hi everyone,
Thought I’d let you know about two new publications!
#1
Last year I wrote a poem about a draft-dodging ham sandwich and his famous girlfriend. It’s called “Gemini Lunch (a Sandwich Cries America),” and it’s now available in The Hamthology.
The Hamthology is a collection of “ham sandwich literature” where every piece features a ham sandwich in some way. When I first read about this project, I knew I had to submit something. Even though my wife and I are both vegetarians, the concept was too hilarious to pass up.
#2
My story “Cake of the Dead” has been reprinted in a new collection: Crimson Streets #5: ‘The Ipthian Crystal’ and Other Tales. “Cake of the Dead” is a weird tale (about weird cheesecake) set in late nineteenth-century London. It originally appeared in Crimson Streets in April 2017.
That’s all for now!
Peace,
Justin
Hey everyone,
Dear Abby published another one of my letters! You can find it in yesterday’s column (04/01/2019). She answered three letters total–mine is the one from “Misunderstood in Memphis.”
Abby has been kind enough to print several of my letters over the past few years. Head over to my Letters page if you wanna check ’em out!
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading!

Hey everyone,
Jerry Jazz Musician is getting ready to announce the winner of their 50th Short Fiction Contest. To celebrate the big 5-0, they’ve been publishing profiles of previous contest winners over the past few weeks.
My profile was published today! You can read it here. It includes a brief reflection on writing “Wailing Wall,” a short bio, and a list of five books I’ve read recently and would recommend to others (and in case you’re wondering…yes, one of the books was written by the one and only Tommy Chong).
That’s all I have for today!
Peace,
Justin

My story “Wailing Wall” has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize! Here’s the announcement from the publisher. How exciting!
If you haven’t read “Wailing Wall” yet, you can check it out at the link above. And if you’ve already read it…thanks! It means a lot!
Thanks, Jerry Jazz Musician!

Greetings!
I have exciting sci-fi news to share! My short poem “unarmed” was just published in the latest issue of Star*Line. Oh, and speaking of exciting sci-fi news, my wife and I went to Roswell yesterday.
I’ve always been fascinated by the 1947 Roswell crash, and I’ve been wanting to visit for a long time. It was so cool to see how the town has embraced the whole alien thing. There are alien murals and statues everywhere! We spent some time at the International UFO Museum, and they have a giant replica of Gort from The Day the Earth Stood Still. Check this guy out!
That’s it for today!
Peace,
-Justin
Happy Sunday, everyone! Just stopped by with a couple quick updates.
1) Story Seed Vault published one of my really, really short stories last month (it’s only two sentences long). You can read it here.
2) Earlier this year, I submitted a story to a project called Battery Pack III. It didn’t get selected, but it made the final shortlist. I’m happy it made it that far! Here’s the post from Neon Books.
That’s all the news I had for today! See ya later,
Justin
